Bill Gates makes sure Windows is popular n widely used, but that does not ensure its quality.
1.Linux is open source. So piracy is not a problem.
2. Fact: linux is difficult to use, compared to windows. Ex. try installing nvidia GeForce 6800M GS on an ubuntu/kubuntu . In windows its just one click.
3. Another FACT: VISTA sucks big time.
4. Another Fact: Linux rocks.
There is always a choice... Always... ALWAYS...
windows has a robust marketing strategy compared to Linux..
Only techies know about Linux, the common man has heard of Windows than Linux.. and wud rather pay for a pirated version of Windows than get a free version of Linux..
Word of Mouth is the purest form of marketing.. but also the slowest..
and Linux is more of word of mouth publicity .. but Windows is everywhere...
