@ Puppet! Yes..Buddha was very much aware that Material wealth was not wht he aspired for(despite leading a luxurious childhood)...his vision was clear when he left the Palace..
More importantly...the crux here is on the "generalized Comparison".
maybe you got it all wrong....may be this is not a comparison but an observation that may guide the wandering souls....I am you and what I see is me!!!
And as far as Buddha knowing where he was heading....well no one can advocate what he knew....for only he knows what he knew then and you think you know now......There is a difference in seeing the ray and finding the sun.

i read a book on buddha very recently, will tel U wat I read, U can infer something on the basis of that too.here it goes,
buddha had not seen death till the age of like 29 or something, then one day he was goin somewhere n he saw someone dying on the street, n he asked the driver of the chariot, who couldn lie to him, n said this man is ill or something n he is dying. buddha was puzzled,n he realised that one day even he is gonna die.. so he decided to leave his palace n went in the search of something immortal, something that would remain even after his death.
so one fine night he just left his palace and came back after some 12 odd years.
in this duration he literally tried everything written about enlightenment ranging from strict diet plans to rigourous exercises, yoga n everything. the day he became enlightened he had grown weak, as weak as someone undernourished.. buddha is known to have tried more things than any other human in the history of mankind.
then one day he got tired and gave it up., n the very next mornin he woke up enlightened..
then he returned to the palace.,
Rabindranath tagore made a very nice poem abt the same,, its summary is something like this
wen buddha got back, his wife asked him one simple thing.
" what you attained away from the palace, away from all of us, could U not have attained the same here ??"
buddha fell numb for a while, it was a very simple n straight question, (n he dint wanna lie cuz the answer was yes, he could hav attained the same in the palace)
n the book i read says, buddha said I cud have attained the same here in the palace, but the only difference was back then I dint know the same.
2 puppet: i m sorry to have spoken on ur behalf., but wen I was doing that yesterday, had a thought that U might point it out., n U do it today., ur turning predictable..

Such a comparison cannot be generalized.Buddha, went on, to achieve a spectacular objective...we need to see where we are heading to...
my dear
thre was sarcastic consolation for the readers who are annoyed with their folks.
@viyoma.r
we need to see where we are heading to...
Do we??? Did Buddha always know where he was heading??
witty comparison n it does bring solace.
2 puppet: thanQ for the elucidation.
